Issue Position: PROTECTING OUR QUALITY OF LIFE

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012

As both a civic leader, and Chair of Community Board 11, Jerry Iannece has been an outspoken and vigilant advocate of causes that would improve the quality of life in our community. Jerry believes in strong policies to stop illegal occupancies, and keep our neighborhoods clean and green. He opposes the seemingly unrestricted invasion of our neighborhoods by Community Facilities, which keep saturating our communities. As your Assemblyman, Jerry would help propose legislation that would address this problem, and that would require Community Facilities to be subject to a ULURP-type review process, whereby, before a Community Facility is permitted in a specific location, it must be reviewed, and approved at a public hearing. Jerry also supports the proper funding for the Department of Buildings in Queens, so that they have enough inspectors to make sure that all construction meets the NYC Zoning Resolutions. Jerry cares about our neighborhoods, and as Assemblyman, will fight to protect the quality of life all throughout District 25.

Jerry was also closely involved with the design and approval of the Little Neck Long Island Railroad Station Quiet Zone, which has been implemented. This means that LIRR Trains will NO Longer be required to blast their horns at the LIRR Little Neck Station Crossing, all day, and all night long.

Furthermore, it was Jerry who forced the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) to fund, and build Sound Barriers along the Long Island Expressway in problematic areas, to save the residents in that area from the crushing sounds they were forced to endure for decades. Residents are entitled to peace and quiet, and Jerry will continue to fight to ensure this happens.
